KAA’s Middle Years Programme is designed for grades 6-10 and encourages students to make connections between their course work and the real world. Our goal is to promote our KAA learners to become global leaders through communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement.

The MYP at KAA also strives to inspire our students to become life-long learners and
trustworthy citizens through a curriculum that focuses on:
  • The IB learner profile
  • Action within and beyond the school community
  • Systems designed to allow our learners to collaborate and work as one community
  • Tools to learn skills that will enhance their content knowledge
The Middle Years Programme is specifically designed for students aged 11 to 16 years when students are making the transition from early puberty to mid – adolescence. This time of life is characterized by a significant period of personal, social and intellectual development, of uncertainty and questioning. The MYP is designed to assist students in their search for a sense of place in their world. It is programme based on best practice, educational research and informed development. The programme is rigorous and challenging, yet flexible enough to allow for the adoption of national standards as needed.

MYP Principles (IBO, 2019)
The MYP is based on a set of principles that are deeply rooted in international education. An MYP school is a community of learners who aim to develop the qualities of international mindedness outlined in the IB learner profile. The MYP is also designed to provide opportunities for students to develop, challenge, and reflect upon their personal value systems. The development of this value system and the ability to make sound judgement is seen as key components of adolescent development.

Global contexts for teaching and learning (IBO, 2019)
Global contexts direct learning towards independent and shared inquiry into our common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet. Using the world as the broadest context for learning, MYP individuals and societies can develop meaningful explorations of:
  • identities and relationships
  • orientation in time and space
  • personal and cultural expression
  • scientific and technical innovation
  • globalization and sustainability
  • fairness and development
