Junior Leadership Awards

On Thursday, May 9th, two King Abdullah Academy juniors, Rasil Alamri and Ali Kabli, were honored by the University of Virginia and the College of William & Mary with awards in recognition of their innovation, leadership, and community service.

Each year The University of Virginia recognizes outstanding students who embrace creativity and innovation and embody the spirit of discovery, much like the University of Virginia’s founder, Thomas Jefferson. Students that represent the Jeffersonian ideals of scholarship, leadership, and citizenship are presented with the Jefferson Book Award in recognition of their personal achievements and their contribution to the school and community.

The 2019 recipient of the Jefferson Book Award at King Abdullah Academy is Rasil Alamri. In addition to a certificate signed by UVA President James E. Ryan, Rasil received a copy of Mr. Jefferson’s Telescope: A History of the University of Virginia in 100 Objects.

Rasil, who aspires to be a neurosurgeon, currently serves as a dedicated member of the Community Service Club. In her native Saudi Arabia she has previously been honored for her service as a volunteer at local hospitals, where she has raised money to provide wheel chairs for disabled patients.  “I feel like this is an important accomplishment”, she said about her award, “especially since I am a new student here.”

The William & Mary Leadership Award is presented to the one student who best exemplifies the spirit of King Abdullah Academy. Award recipients are selected by their teachers because of their demonstration of inspiration leadership, outstanding scholarship, and unwavering loyalty to the school and community.

The 2019 recipient of the William & Mary Leadership Award at King Abdullah Academy is Ali Kabli. Ali received a certificate and signed commendation from Tim Wolfe, Dean of Admissions at the College, along with a copy of A Passion for Leadership by William & Mary alumnus and current Chancellor Robert Gates.

With dreams of becoming both a professional animator and an engineer, Ali currently plays a leadership role in the Art Club. True to his humble nature, he said about the award, “I don’t think I fit the profile but it was an honor to receive it.”
